A brief history of Exercise & Excess

Chris and Ryan Melody were hanging out after work one day in 2012 and thought, "You know, we should really be doing something other than just drinking." So Chris and Ryan contacted a handful of friends and came up with a 5k route, starting and ending at Doc's on Congress. The Austin Beer Run Club was born.

Eventually the club grew out of Doc's on S. Congress. So in early 2014 the club changed venues to Uncle Billy's on Barton Springs Rd. It was a big win for both parties. Uncle Billy's was able to get a steady stream of patrons every Wednesday night for food and beers, as well as exposure to club members (many of whom are folks that are new to Austin). In return the Austin Beer Run Club got a special food + beer menu for runners, a much larger venue, and a location that led to a new spring/summer route around the lake.

Yomosas -- the Yoga & Mimosas club -- is Chris's next idea for combining exercise and social, a natural compliment to the Austin Beer Run Club. |
